[OM] What is a 35SP?

Hello Oly lovers,

My sister-in-law has inherited two (yes 2!) Olympus 35SP cameras along with
a Pentax 1 somethingy and some other stuff from her father-in-law (not my
wife's side). One of the Oly 35SP is broken, the other works but the
exposure control ring is very stiff to move. My questions are this...

1. What is the function of rotating the exposure control ring in the two
different directions from the 'A' setting? It seems almost as if the speed
is adjusted in one direction and the aperture in the other, but how does
this work?

2. Is the broken camera (I believe it is only the film transport that is
jammed) worth a go at fixing? The lens looks good (f1.8?) and I may be
able to get the camera for free.

Sorry if this post is a bit vague. I had only a few minutes to look at
these cameras and as it was just before Christmas, I was not entirely
sober, and had other things on my mind at the time :)
