One key point to recall is that Adams had a distinct sheet film orientation
when he descibes Zone system work. There have been translations for roll film
and 35mm of course, and the basic concepts translate, film is film after all,
but unless you are carrying an N-1 body, an N body and and N+1 body (and have
the N +/- 2 bodies back in the car) you will have a hard time strickly
following the Adams formula. In "The Negative" pg 93 he talks about the
fudging on the Zone system you need to do for 35mm.
