But with the mode switch on the OM-2n set to "OFF", that means when
the shutter is pressed, it must quickly turn on the OTF metering to
measure the light off the curtains (and maybe the meter in the prism
as well to see if it is faster than 1/60?). Does anyone know if
this is in fact what happens?

Given all the answers so far, and the fact that I do not plan to
take long exposure (longer than 1/30) pictures, I am still
struggling with the question: Why would anyone ever want to turn the
mode switch of the OM-2n from "OFF" to "AUTO"? What additional
capability does one get in "AUTO" that (s)he will not get in "OFF"
mode? The only difference I have heard so far is that when switched
to "AUTO", the meter in the prism is turned on and the needle in the
finder moves.
