I have the Tamron 500mm SP.
It doesn't hold a candle to the Zuiko 300mm f4.5 for contrast,
though they are a bit closer in terms of sharpness, though I think
the Zuiko still has a slight edge here. Images taken with it have a
flatness and unexciting rendition of colour. This is not to say it
is awfull, just that I prefer the results via the Zuiko.
The 300mm Zuiko + 1.4x converter yields much nicer images but is
heavier, bulkier and more expensive.
I no longer use mine for photography - I have a Nikon scpoe converter
stuck on the end turning it into an exceedingly nifty and powerful
spotting scope - a puprose for which it is excellent.
