In a message dated 98-01-30 11:02:08 EST, you write:

<< I would really like to use the flash off the
camera via a TTL cord. >>

<<What you could do however, is to use a TTL Connector 4 (OM2n) and a
TTL cord to a TTL T20 connector (now hard to get also-but available). This
would deliver your TTL controls to a remote hotshoe for your flash.>>

I agree this is probably the only way to get TTL control. I am not familiar
with the 422D - I'm assuming it has no way to connect a synch cord? While not
allowing TTL, you could get the flash off the camera hotshoe with a PC/hotshoe
adaptor and then use it in the auto and manual mode with a synch cord. With a
little experimentation with reducing the flash's output you could create the
fill flash effects without TTL control.
BTW, Allen Rokach's book "The Field Guide to Photographing Flowers" has some
nice discussions of fill/closeup flash techniques. Another interesting thing
about the book is he uses Olympus equipment and all the photographs have
captions about which OM camera/ lens/flash were used as well as exposure
settings.
