Well, I would have to say that using the 16mm is more fun than a greased
hampster! My example has about 500f the coating abraded off that
protruding front element and it is a flair happy lens to say the least. Being
a fisheye, flair control is admittedly a challenge anyway but I suspect the
damage to the coating is hurting me some so I can't claim to know what a
"good" Sigma would do. I shoot mostly black and white anyway and can live
with some of the flair artifacts, they actually can be used to good effect
sometimes.

I've done some work with it inside aircraft museums for example that have a
sense of motion and drama that I couldn't get even with my 24mm/2.8. Creating
a feeling of scale by getting a large aircraft completely in frame along with
the context of the hangar from which it is suspended is quite a feat. The
extreme perspective distortion allows me to accentuate details or features
that I find most interesting while still including the rest of the ship.
Imagine a close up of a helicopter rotor tip, brightly striped yellow for
example, with the rest of the rotor receding into the helicopter body itself
now in the photo's "background." This is the kind of stuff I like to do with
the 16mm. Playing with the rectilinear lines turned curved, in and of itself,
isn't as interesting to me.

Just offhand I would say the Sigma's contrast is fair to good, nothing to
write home about, though one has to factor in that coating damage I mentioned
in my example, and sharpness is "good enough." Barrel distortion, well, I
guess that's the whole point of a fisheye :^)

The Sigma is a bulky lens of course, not anywhere near as svelt as the Zuiko
fisheye, but I fear I have missed my window of opportunity to get the Zuiko
for a reasonable price. I was caught snoozing when the Olympus prices
exploded through the roof a couple of years ago.

Regards,

Carl
