I picked up one of these earlier this year for a very decent price ( I couldn't
justify the high prices I see advertised). The lens is very small (short) and
the filter threads are on the aperture ring. This makes the aperture difficult
to set without a filter mounted.
I have not used it much yet but the few exposures I have made were not
noticeably better or worse than my 50 1.8. ( for Gary: early model, silver
front ring, single coated, 5 digit serial number ;)
I would suggest you try the lens on a body to see if you like the way it
handles before you decide. When the sun comes back I think I will try it as a
point and shoot with the aperture and focus set for a convenient hyperfocal
distance and some Kodak MAX .
