I figure, if  the source of the lenses, Olympus Tokyo, prints 5 parts lists
(type 1,2, 3, 4 and 5), then there are five types, and that is a more
accurate record than measuring lens length, or anything we could all decide
makes up a lens "type".

Last 50 1.8 type (type 5) is VERY different from type 2. Type 2 front
element is LC0651 and rest of lens shares virtually no common parts with
Type 5 (front element # LCZJ1669 ((part of filter ring)).  Type 2 is 6
elements / 5 groups, Type 5 is 6  elements / 4 groups though first 2 groups
(front element and group 2) cannot be disassembled or replaced separately
(front element is "crimped" in place. :-o)
