Yes it's fine as long as you use a red 25 so that you can see what you are
doing through the viewfinder. I prefer the effect of using a more opaque
filter such as the R72 or 87 IR filters and use a rangefinder camera.

You can use HIE with an OM4 - the shutter will not cause you any problems.
However, the OM4 does have a dimpled back plate (as do all OMs that I have
seen) which will result in a dimpled pattern on your negs. You can get
'round this problem in one of two ways:

1. Buy a plain pressure plate from Olympus for about $70
2. Wrap some 120 roll film backing paper around the dimpled back plate,
black side facing the lens and fix with tape round the back of the
pressure plate.

If you will be shooting a lot of HIE and dedicating the OM4 to that purpose
then go for option 1. Option 2 works fine and it will last for many rolls
of film before you even have to think about changing it....

You could also consider using Konica 750 which doesn't suffer from back
plate problems as it has an anti-halation layer in the film. You can also
load it in subdued light, whereas the HIE requires a dark room or a
changing bag. You can also get more beer in your cooler without all that
HIE film cluttering it up ;-) Disadvantages are that it is a much slower
emulsion, read as "always use a tripod", and the grain is smaller -
although this is only a disadvantage if you want the large grain look you
achieve with HIE.

Currently I use only three films, Ilford Delta 100 Pro, Delta 400 Pro and
Konica 750. My last roll of HIE sits half exposed in a very old Practika
which has a plain pressure plate....

All the best,
