Well the way it goes approximately is:

No Coating            68 0ght transmission
Single Coating        95 0ght transmission
Multi Coating         98 0ght transmission
Super Multi Coating   98 0ght transmission (and marketing hype)


Tried out a 24mm square screw thread pentax hood on my 24mm Zuiko - no joy
but it would look wonderful ;-)


Talking of precise and pre-war, I regularly use a 75mm Tessar with no
coatings - as long as you keep the sun out of your shots the contrast is
fine.  Demonstrated this to myself at the last Mac Expo in London where
that lens combo accompanied my XA (obligatory OM content).  There was a
mock-up of a 60s rock'n'roll diner with a black'n'white tiled floor - the
uncoated lens gave wonderful results........
