I believe part of the problem is that Olympus and Sony use the same
manufacturing and distribution methods. They only manufacture certain
products once a year or every two years, load up a couple containers and
off they go. Certain products are backordered from the previous year and
the entire production run will have been sold within a month. Olympus (and
Sony) check the sales records of "sample" stores and warehouses and
discover that not a single "Widget #72" has been sold in 9 months. Then
they drop the product because of the "low demand!"

I'm picking on Sony here because they are the largest example of this
method. They will introduce a new product, it sells great for a year or
two, they drop ALL marketing of said product, product sales drop because of
zero marketing, Sony pulls the product because of dropping sales. Sony
introduces and pulls over 100 products A DAY!

I think Olympus management went to the same school as did Sony management.
