Nothing happened, Garth.

Schedule:

March 98: Preliminary decision by German national bank. Here will be
decided which countries qualify for joining the EMU (European Monetary
Union) for use of common currency (called Euro, not ECU anymore).

May 98: Formal decision by European Community on the same topic.

Jan 99: Start of usage of Euro in bank traffic. Stock exchanges will
use Euro from now on. I think from that moment an eBay-like auction
could work, but only in the Euro-participating countries (7 or 8, I
guess, on the continent - The UK will not participate)

Jan 2002: Start of usage of Euro in real life (in bills/coins).

Frank.
