Oh, how we get spoiled by our OMs. Even the OM-1 is less suseptable to
viewfinder light than the average.  Yes, you can see it if there is a
strong side light shining off your schnozz and into the viewfinder.  Eye
glass wearers suffer this problem more than us half-blind types who choose
to stumble rather than wear corrective lenses.
