The Vivitar Series I 200/3 lens has 6 elements in 6 groups, weighs 823 g., and
is 116 mm x 80 mm long. The closest focusing distance is 1.2 m with a 1:4
reproduction ratio. The glossy brochure for this lens says "In designing a
200mm lens that would provide equally excellent images from infinity to a
moderate close-up distance, Vivitar specialist introduced a stationary rear
compensating lens to correct aberrations produced as the lens moves in
relation to the film plane." It's supposed to maintain corner sharpness
regardless of the focusing distance.

I've had this lens ever since (20+ years ??) it came out in the VMC
multicoated version (a few original lens were single coated), and have always
enjoyed the sharp and contrasty slides. It was introduced at around the same
time as the Series I 35-85, and 135/2.3. These are the three lens that
started the Series I reputation, as you will. If I've held onto it for so
long, well ... recommendations aren't necessary.

Hope you can pick it up.
