Since we know that the OM2000 is outsourced to Cosina, my guess is that maybe
they're trying to outsource everything.  If you check Olympus' pulse, it's
definitely got a digital beat.  Their new D-600L seems to be quite a camera
and sells for around $1300 (read high profit margins).  Where are they going
to get the square footage in their production plants for this new venture?
Why would they tie up capital in a system that they don't have their heart in
advancing?  When the man with the vision is gone (Maitani), it's just about
making money. Japan does tend to outsource a lot of its work to smaller
manufacturers.  I think this is what is happening here.  Again they will
listen to the "ka ching" sound in their cash registers to monitor what they
are going to produce.  If you want to keep Olympus 35mm going, buy, buy, buy.
