   Yes, it has been done. Perhaps the shop most famous for these
conversions is Professional Camera Repair in NY. I know of adaptations
such as the old trombone-type Leitz 400mm/6.8 to Nikon. I believe Angelo
Lomeo & Sonja Bullaty had one adapted to EOS1-N and used it in their book
on Tuscany. It is a superb lens, and breaks down into 2 pieces, very
convenient for travelers. I also heard of an old Minolta Variable Field
Curvature 24mm converted to Nikon mt. (THAT must have been an interesting
lens!). In short, yes, conversions have been done for ages, though I
suspect that with the advent of electronics and AF SLR's, the number of
conversions is down (and the price UP).
