For those of you who are just as anxious as I am to follow Imagek's
revolutionary development of a generic digital camera insert
-mentioned in the list a while ago- :
they have a site - http://www.imagek.com - that gives some
information.
It contains a few pictures that indicate how it would look like.
P.S. 1 the resolution they promise (1280 x 1024) obviously doesn't make
it a serious competitor for conventional photographic media. It is even
too small for an A4 print; 13x18 cm is about the limit (compare this
to a serious filmscanner like Nikon's CoolScan - roughly 4000x2600
pixels). But think of this insert as a nice add-on to be used next to
film, like a polaroid back for medium format; allowing you to check
lighting setup, amongst others. Or letting Frank take pictures of his
home-made power supply, and immediatedly post it to us... Anyway, it's
the same resolution of the Olympus D-600L. Now compare prices and
photographic possibilities...
P.S. 2 they do suggest it will use the full 24x36mm frame (probably
possible thanks to using new, cheap CMOS technology rather than
expensive CCD's. A restful thought; I would be quite reluctant to buy
an 8mm/F2.8 Zuiko fish-eye and use it as a standard lens. People might
just think I've escaped the funny farm...
On the other hand, with a much smaller 'film' format, the advantage
would be that extreme super teles would be extremely cheap, even with a
200rice raise...
