The Canon FD lenses are just as plastic, and that is one of the most popular
systems here. I have "snapped" a lot of CFD lenses apart to repair. Even the
older SSC breechlock models may be snap together plastic. I have been very
happy with the Sigma lenses I have, but some models probably should be
avoided. That is the case with most manufacturers. My opinion is that Sigma
is working to improve their quality, and I intend to purchase more Sigma
lenses. Plastic lenses are coming from most manufacturers today. Canon,
Minolta, and Nikon are probably the top SLR makers, and they even use
plastic lens mounts on the cheaper models.
