What

When you have to do repro work (a job for which distortion can result
in a complete failure) you can set the zoom at the lenght of zero
distortion, almost every zoom has one. Leica points at this fact
explicitely in its advertising-informations. But of course a zoom is a
zoom. Real zero distortion is found only in macro lenses, and it is
the main reason for using a macro lens, imho. (The second is better
eveness of centre to corners quality, the third is better quality at
1/3 size reproduction ratio, more or less, or even in a full range
ratio from 1/2 to 1/? in IF projects). Macro zoom are rare birds,
Nikon has just made one, the first and only in the world, asfaik.
