[OM] RE: Olympus and MO technology

4-5 years ago, MO (magneto-optical) technology WAS a potential contender
with hard disk technology as data storage and data archive. But then,
the latter kept improving itself every year (area density, access time,
and cost) as to give MO a VERY difficult time to compete as data
storage.

In the last couple of years, newer technology like writeable CD emerged
that is ideal for data archiving - high capacity (650MB/CD today) and
VERY low cost (less than $2/CD). As such, MO cannot compete as data
archive either.

Thus, I can only foresee MO to be a technology of yesterday. At one
point then, Olympus seemed to be a leader in MO. Now, it looks like they
have bet on a wrong horse.
