      Hi Gary,

Just curious about what lens you were using. It doesn't seem to me
that with a normal lens just manually advancing the film would cause
that much stress on a tripod socket.

Now for my own experiences. I have killed to OM1's, both in the same
manner. Do NOT take your OM's fishing if you plan to do some wading.
Enough said there :) Beyond that, I have had shutter/mirror lockup
problems with one of my OM1's and a couple times with my OM2S-program.
(Beyond dead batteries) I have always found these problems were attributed
to pressures on levers under the bottom covers and once analized, easily
    fixed.
Other than that, I have been using OM's trouble free since 1977.

                                                   enjoy,
                                                     Brad
