Hi all:
Here are some Popular Photography lens tests from the 1980s, including the 40
mm f/2.0, which is notable for its far edge boost. Far edge boosting in the
prime lenses is a characteristic on the wide angle and normal focal lengths in
the Zuiko line. I wonder how much of that was in response to Modern
Photography's choice of the center and corner as it's testing spots? In
another words, if OLY wanted their lenses to look good in Modern Photography,
then they did half of what they had to do: boost the corners. This kind of
"designing for the magazine labs" is well documented in the computing
industry. It is one reason that I was always more interesting in Popular
Photography's tests which measured at points.
Included here are some single coated Zuiko's. Note the high flare level of
the 100 mm f/2.8 For a review of the single coated 50mm f/1.8 (old design),
