Hello Zuikoholics,

some arguments why are Zuikos still compare favorable with actual AF lenses.
Lee, if you don?t mind, you should change the FAQ.

       >When introduced in the 1970s, the Zuiko lenses were
state-of-the-art. Today, they are still on a level
with competing Leica, Nikon, and Zeiss designs of
        that era.<

I would add: Contemporary AF lenses show an loss of quality in make and image
quality compared to there MF ancestors.
I?m sure Lee, you would formulate this more elegant.

And now to the lens comparison. Color Foto has changed the way they publish
there lens tests with just a single number for each rubric.
Winsor, the problem is, that the graphs are still available which gave are
better impression of how the lens performs at different apertures, but it is a
little bit difficult to represent them in ASCII. Scanning them in and putting
them an a webside, might violate there copyright, because that?s more than
quoting.
Color Foto changed the way they test in 12/94, older tests are not direct
comparable. I noticed a strange difference in the results for vignetting between
the 96 and 97 tests, maybe they changed something but there was no notice about
a change.

I decided to compare just lenses of the same max. aperture, because the test
numbers are an compilation of results at max. aperture and at 5,6. So it?s a
little bit unfair to show the results of 1,4 lenses, but some of them show a
good performance.

The quality numbers for sharpness and contrast are basing on MTF measuring. The
maximum number for sharpness, contrast is 30, for centering is 20 and for
distortion, vignetting is 10, max. total is 100.

Based on lens tests by the Magazin Color Foto, published in 5/96, 11/97 and
12/97.
