I would NEVER consider a 1 and 1/2 metering off a *parts camera*!  (Wow!
this looks PVT's style)

There may be a battery problem, but in the meanwhile I'd use the camera and
compensate accordingly.

Anyway, if you are willing to dump that old camera...
