There are several simple causes of a dead OM-1 meter. The most common does
require top removal. Start by checking the wiring to the battery in the
bottom plate as this can break. The most common cause I have found is the
meter grounding screw is loose. This screw is under the top cover next to
the viewfinder. It will cause a dead or very low reading meter. OM-1s and
OM-2s can be found used at bargain prices, but most are in need of a CLA,
and foam damaged prisms are getting common on the OM-1.
