hans,

that was exacly my point, it is a MARKETING SCHEME. they are targeting a
segment of what they feel is an emerging market. the fact that they are
coupling this with the centurion says it all. i just forgot to mention this
in the earlier post. if you check out their website, it is there already.
there are people out there who want to scan their photographs without
creating a hole in their pocket but still get decent  images good enough to
be transmitted thru the internet or be printed without the need of a
computer. tthere is the emerging market of purely digital photography on an
a mass market basis. take a picuture have the film processed, take it  home
and print it. no need of a computer interface. if you saw a recent new york
times article, only a little less than half of american households have
computers.  this, i think, is what they are trying to explore with these
products. the reason that i would want an es-10 is because it fits my need
and budget for now, not because it is the best out there, because it is not
and certainly not because it has olympus plastered on it.
