[OM] 100/2.8 + lens mount problem

Hi all,

I really like this list and am impressed of all the
knowledge possed by all of you.
The new gallery is very nice too :)

First I would like to ask some advice about the 100/2.8
and the importance of multicoating. I have been looking
at 4 different 100/2.8 the last week and they all fall
in the price range of 1000-1500 SKR (approx 125-190 USD).
2 of them were in very nice condition with no faults
at all (at least not what I could detect).
None of them were marked MC and I couldn't see any green
reflections in them. I compared the reflection to 3
other MC marked lenses (24 50 135) and they all showed
a distinct green reflection while the 100/2.8 were much
alike (blue, purple) but without any green in it.
The lens I picked out as the "best" one had serial number 160xxx. Unfortunately
I can't exactly remember
how the focal length and f-stop were marked on the
front ring.

So any ideas about if it is multicoated? Does it matter?
Is the price right? (Perhaps any of the Swedish members
of the list would like to enlighten me here?)

Ok some other stuff.

Has anyone had any problems with the locking device on
the lensmount (The lens release button)?
My 135/2.8 suddenly lost the functionality of this
rather important little button *smile* and I heard
some loose item scrambling inside the lens.
Removing the mount (loosing the 3 screws) I found a
small metal thing that fits on the plastic inside
the metal mount and acts as a spring on the release
button. (Hope it makes any sense)
This metal piece has 2 holes that fits nicely on 2
plastic knobs (extrusions). Problem is that one
of these plastic knobs were missing and even though
it was possible to press the metal piece back on. It
snapped loose after just a couple of times using
the release button.
After contacting a repairshop It looked like I had to
buy a new plastic part (the grey? one inserted in the
metal mount) and have him fixing it all together and
that would probably cost something like 50 USD.
My solution to this was to buy some super glue and
glue it in place. Of course this was all done with
great care not to damage the glass elements or any
mechanical parts in the lens.
Now a couple of weeks later it works perfectly and
I have saved myself some money in the process.
In conclusion: Check that the release button is
working properly by not just pressing it gently a couple
of times but press it all the way in 10-20 times
to make sure nothing will go loose.

Joakim Svensson
