I would suggest putting something over the rubber focus ring - or even
removing it - before giving the lens a heavy dose of UV from that sort
of lamp.  I don't know how sensitive they are to UV, but most rubbers
and plastics are to a certain degree and that sort of lamp gives out
much shorter wavelegnths than is present in sunlight.  Fortunately its
these very wavelengths that are fatal to most carbon based life forms.
