Hi Warren,
I can not say how the lens is made.  But I just ran a test a few weeks ago to
compare several of my close-up lens combinations at 0.5X mag.  One thing came
out very clear (well not so).  The OM close-up lens on my 85-250 at 150mm to
give 0.5mag was the worst of the lot.  Only the center 1/2 was sharp enough to
consider usable. At 250 mm for approx. 1X mag -- you loose all but the center
1/3.  At lower than 0.5x mag, I think the quality improves, although I have
not run any test to confirm this.  But still, I was disappointed.
