Hi Paul,
I did that stunt many (more than 10) years ago. I have to dig into
my old files to find the details of the procedure, but as far as I
remember it was just a matter of shorting out a small capacitor. After
modification the Winder 1 works like a Winder 2 in sequence mode.
The modified winder is still working after all these years, showing no
problems apart from some instability due to switch trouble. Probably
it just needs to be cleaned.
