|central spot area as part of the exposure calculation UNLESS you push
|the spot button.  That's the whole point. 

A huge benefit of the non-automatic storage of the
continuous readings is that the exposure of critical point
zones (e.g., the lightest and darkest areas) can be checked
quickly.  This info can be compared with the exposure
latitude of the film in use and employed to customize the
final exposure to the photographer's preference.  Thus,
judicious use of the OM3(Ti), OM4(Ti) spot metering system
can provide near-studio level control in the field!
