Interesting Marco. Do you know anything about the 300/6.3 and 400/4.5 that
originally was in the OM-system? If the 400/6.3 is to be considered a heavy
lens, I wonder what is to be said about the 400/4.5 with it´s massive weight of
2200 g. I know I´ve asked about those lenses once before, but since there were
no firm answers and that there are a lot of new listmembers now I figure it
might be appropiate to do this again.

I have two seemingly identical manuals for Zuiko lens group, one with and one
without those lenses mentioned. The first is dated 0173 on the back, and the
other 1077. The 400/4.5 seems to have been an older lens design with rack and
pinion focusing, but the lightweight 300/6.3 was a more modern straight
helicoid construction. Optical data for the 300/6.3 is: 6 elements in 5 groups,
F/stop range 6.3-32, min. focus 3.5 m (11´6"), min. photographic range 22 cm x
33 cm (8.7" x 13"), focusing straight helicoid, weight 600 g, length 171 mm
(6.7"), max. diam 70 mm (2.8"), filter size 55 mm, and for the 400/4.5: 6
elements in 4 groups, F/stop range 4.5-32, min. focus 5 m (16´4-3/4"), min.
photographic range 23 cm x 35 cm (9.1" x 13.8"), focusing rack and pinion,
weight 2200 g, length 257 mm (10.1"), max. diam 110 mm (4.3"), filter size 100
mm(?).

In spite of the weight and size of the 400/4.5 hand-held photography is still
possible according to the manual. Anyone have an idea to the origin and fate of
these lenses?
