I too tried an assortment of lenses on several bodies. Interestingly, I
recently acquired a few new. The new ones are exceptionally tight, almost
too tight. It takes considerable grip and rotating force to mount and
dismount them. There is no binding, they are just a more snug than I am
used to. I also have a few much older lenses. Recently one of them - the
300mm tele - began to feel a little sloppy. I checked the screws visually
and they appeared ok. However, application of a jewler's screwdriver got
half a turn tightness in all three screws. Much better now. I also have an
old 28mm f/3.5 that fits a little sloppy. Everything it snug, it simply
fits all four bodies loosely. However, it takes fine photos and I worry not
about it.

I think Denton said it best - Take it back and sell it to someone less
fussy.
