[OM] Thunder and lightning

Hello fellow zuikologists,

last night we had a marvellous thunderstorm here in Hamburg. And, as I
have meanwhile gotten into the habit of pulling out the OM whenever
something unusual happens, I tried to 'collect' lightning from an attic
window with my OM2, the 24mm/2.8 and a small tripod. Setting the lens to
f16 and leaving the camera on auto yielded exposure times of 2-5min on
100ASA. I did a little bracketing with the exposure compensation dial,
but the wind was gusty and I feared the camera would get wet in the end
with all that spray in the air.
So, does anyone of you have any experience with this sort of
'flash-photography'? Was it a good idea to use a small aperture to
collect more lightning, or would the outcome possibly be better by
opening up a little and concentrating on a single flash?
Confused,
Soenke, Hamburg
