HI Gary,
I've looked "in" my IS 3000 lens: there is something like the play you
describe but nothing alarming in my opinion. But, of course the pictures I
make with this camera are not "critical". At this time  I've never seen
picture deterioration but perhaps with the macro lens and in very close
focus?
