This is a humbling corrective of a silly blanket statement. Mea culpa. I am
continually guilty of all three of the mistakes you describe, out of which
frustration the novice has blamed his tools.   Thanks for sharing the
suggestion about "bracketing the polarizer."

Someone else mentioned that the polarizer flattens or evens out strong
midday light, and I realized how much I would miss it for that function
when I started contemplating leaving it behind.
