Ken, I used to spend 3-4 weeks at a time flying from Goose Bay in Labrador (or
Quebec, I could never get the exact province correct without checking the maps)
where in later summer the very small black flies were bad.   If you allowed
yourself to be caught, the resulting bites and reactions were large and
long-lasting!  "Deep Woods OFF!" seemed to do the trick of repelling these
miniature monsters - but keep it off your cameras etc...
