Hi all!
There is a product available from gun-shops which chemically blackens brass.
Ideal for those well-rubbed corners on the top and bottom plates of the OM.
It flawlessly matches the original finish and the touch-up is undetectable.
It is called "Brass Black" manufactured in the USA by Birchwood Casey, Eden
Prairie, Minnesota 55344 - in a 3 fl.oz PVC bottle.
It will not however, blacken mild-steel such as the camera back!
It's quite easy to use by dabbing it on with a cotton-bud. However, getting
the brass clean enough for the chemical to work can be difficult. Most
household detergents have surface agents which effectively masks the cleaned
brass from air pollution. The company also sells a compatible cleaner. <g>
