I put shades on each lens at the beginning of the day, and use
no caps until the day is done (save for the ones with sliding shades,
like 135/2.8 & 3.5, etc.). I glue two back lens caps back-to-back which
allows stacking lenses in the bag without incurring damage. With their
shades on, they're protected from the bag bottom fabric. I've never
incurred damage from anything on the front elements of my lenses,
including a long series shot in punk clubs that included slam "dancing".
I prefer rubber shades over the OM metal originals, too.
