Internal focusing does not per se improve performance. It is basically no
different
from front cell focusing (on those old folders), it just does away with a
long and
cumbersome helical on long lenses. Perhaps some people mix this up with
floating elements which is a different matter. This reconfigures
helical-focusing
lenses internally in order to optimize performance over a greater range of
magnifications (I seem to have heard that lenses normaly are optimized for
a focusing distance of 10 meters).
