As to the 24-70 Series 1, I had one for about 7 years but now it won't zoom.
It was quite good at 24mm and not too sharp but contrasty at 70mm. Because it
didn't cost too much, I thinks it is BER (beyond economical repair). I have
only seen one used but because many were sold I don't know if the build
quality is very good. Rec.photo.merchandise only had one for sale. Anyway it
was my favorite zoom for a while and I like the range. However, I'm on a
quality kick now and carry around all primes. PopPhoto has reviewed all three
(Tamron, VIvitar and Sigma) 24-70s and they all tested out about the same.
