Hi Barbara,
Welcome, and I am sure you will fall in love with your new 4T.
Just a small suggestion on how I most often use the spot meter.  Pick out and
spot meter a Medium Tone subject (green grass, etc.) in the same light as your
main subject and shoot.  If you are not sure what subjects are medium toned,
just pick out several and spot them all.  The camera will average them out and
you will be very close.  All Tonalities will fall into proper exposure for
most scenes.  The spot meter is also very handy in back lit situations, just
meter on your subject, but the background may be washed out some.
