I should have mentioned the FAQ.

IMHO, anyone who can find this mailing list can find the FAQ.  Most
new members probably come to this list via a web page that lists 
both resources.

Oh come on, the 'net was never like that.   Usenet, BITNET and a
plethora of mailing lists were all well populated by non-hacker types 
a decade before the WWW.

There have *always* been people who pop up and ask (to some) trivial
questions---that's why the great tradition of FAQ lists arose.

As I said in one (misinterpreted) message, the OM list is doing much
better than lists like PhotoForum or Photo.net (and way better than
Usenet).  In those fora, I'd guess more than half of the threads are
either FAQs, "please think for me", or unanswerable vagueness.

I really hope this list will stay this way (and I concede that polite
suggestions to check the FAQ or archives may be a better way to
achieve it).
