Well it does go off if I cover the lens, but it will not fire if the
exposure is say, 1/4 of a second. This isn't the way its supposed to
work? This is in TTL mode on the shoe. Can I use spot mode in
combination with TTL flash? (I wasn't in this case, but Ive been
wondering).

The flash should go off at speeds below 1/60th (with lens on camera and

or test card loaded, front ring NOT on red B or 60)
