Even if they were available, John's description sounds like naked chips
bonded (not exactly soldered) to the PCB. You need a pretty advanced
electronics lab to handle that kind of technology. Besides I doubt that
it is possible to remove a faulty chip without damaging the circuit board
beyond repair.
