A really good use for the 7mm tube is to leave it permanently attached to
the 180mm f/2.8 which does not focus close enough for me. This turns it
into a proper portrait lens and a useful nature photographer's lens. 7mm is
also useful for adding to other combinations of tube too.
As an aside, I recently used the 7mm tube on a 24mm wide angle to
photograph a Burnet Moth on a pyramidal orchid. The tube allowed me to get
close enought to get the moth big enough in the frame while retaining a big
vista behind.
