Welcome to the list, John! You'll receive a lot of answers to your question,
and personal opinions will definitely be reflected, but you can hardly go
wrong with any Olympus product. If I had $250 to spend, I would look for
either an OM-2S or OM-2n body with a 50mm f1.8 Zuiko lens. The 2 series
cameras offer full auto as well as manual operation, with the 2S giving in
addition spot metering and program mode. The OM-1n is an alternative choice.
It is manual only (shutter and metering), and replacement batteries can be a
hassle without incurring extra expense. Notice I specified the 2n model
rather than the plain 2. The reason being that the 2n has a few extra
features, but more important it will be at least five years newer, and could
be ten years newer depending on manufacturing date. With the newer camera
you have less chance of rotted foam in the prism housing, which would occur
an additional expense for repair. The 2S would be newer yet and would have
the aforementioned additional features. Whichever camera you end up with,
happy shooting!

Regards,
John Austin
