Hmm, I always suspected that OEM manufacturers rate their lens' speeds
rather conservatively, whereas the independents often play fast and loose
with the max. aperture numbers. Vivitar might well be one of the worst
offenders. (Disclaimer: pls note that I have absolutely no proof for
this, so take is for what it is -- just another internet rumor! :-))
