[OM] Lenses with Dented Filter Rings

Does anyone have a remedy to remove a dent (flat spot) from the front edge
of a lens?

The previous owner of my recently acquired 50mm 3.5 macro must have at some
point dropped the lens on a tile floor. I didn't notice the flat spot until
I got the lens home and tried to put a filter into the threads. I can actually
screw in a filter but the filters threads get a slight shaving in the
process.
I've been contemplating striking a wooden dowel with a malet in an effort
to push the dent back out. My other alternative would be to leave the filter
mounted pemanently and pretend I don't know the dent is there. The lens looks
like a 10- otherwise.

I think I may have, over payed at $180. On the bright side though I bought a
21mm f2.0 lens for $285 the day before. That little jewel is like new!
