It's a simple matter of dollars and time. Film and a P&S are infinitely
more convenient for the casual snapshooter (on whom the entire industry
depends) in terms of time and money. The computer industry shows zero
interest in ever meeting the money parameter. For the price of one
megapixel camera, the snapshooter can buy 25 years' worth of point & shoot
cameras and 5 year's worth of film. Plus, s/he spends very little
personal time in dropping off & picking up the finished prints. The
quality is far superior to that of the guy with the $3-5K's worth of
digitalia, and the latter's hardware will be obsolete before the 4rth set
of lithiums wears out in that P&S.
The film user can stop after having spent maybe 10 mins out of their day
with the processing, and has prints to show relatives & friends, even
prints to give away. They can order an 11x14 or 16x20 and the print
quality won't embarrass them. Film's going to be around for a while.
